Red Cat Jazz Café Kicks Off First Annual Red Cat Jazz Festival In Downtown Houston A Percentage Of Ticket Sales Fund Jazz Educational/Enrichment Programs in Houston Schools

HOUSTON, TX—Red Cat Jazz Café, celebrates Houston's rich jazz heritage and legacy with the First Annual Red Cat Jazz Festival on Saturday, October 9, 2010, at Jones Plaza, 601 Louisiana Ave, from 4:00pm-10:00pm. The Columbus Day weekend long series of events features performances by Ronnie Laws, Bobby Lyle, Marion Meadows, Theresa Grayson, Dean James, Jimmy B., Kyle Turner, Jawad, Kai “Cookie" Hicks, and Spoken Word Artist, Indigo. The Imani School and TSU Jazz Ensemble interwoven into the lineup of international jazz recording artists are scheduled to perform a special tribute to Houston's unique jazz scene.

“This is an opportunity to connect generations through one of America's great musical pastimes, jazz," says Sam Pink, of the Red Cat Jazz Café. “Putting the Imani School and TSU Jazz Ensemble in the line-up alongside the likes of jazz legend Ronnie Laws is truly a journey through the generations of jazz."

Ben Williams of the Imani School agrees. “Having our students on the stage with these historic figures gives them the inspiration to soar to greater height of achievement." A VIP Kickoff Party, featuring Mike Phillips is planned for Thursday, Oct. 7, 2010 at the Red Cat Jazz Café, 924 Congress just off Old Market Square. The Café also hosts an All Star Jam Session with Kyle Turner on Friday Oct. 8, 2010, and a VIP After Party Immediately following Saturday's show. The Festival closes out at the Red Cat on Sunday with a performance by “Billboard Recording Artist, Miki Howard." Premium Passes with reserved seating and all Festival VIP access are $120.00.
