On Sunday, July 21st, 2002 at the Five Towns College, in Dix Hills, New York a very special jam session took place in memory of Jazz Vibist RAY ALEXANDER, who passed away. It was Ray Alexander's wishes that there be a jam session, with lots of food and drinks, and a happy swinging jam session with lots of great music. Ray's son, Russell Alexander, organized and set things in motion and in conjunction with The Five Towns College (where Ray taught for many years) to have such a jam session or memorial as his dad wished.
Jazz pianist Hank Johnson opened up the musical afternoon with vibist Warren Chassion and a dummer and bassist. Al Cardillo played bass,Percy Bryce (George Shearing's drummer) dropped by to play some. In the spirit of giving, composer Stuart H. Tresser, gave out some free complimentary copies of his book of original tunes and some CD's. It was a wonderful afternoon.
