I first heard it with Norman (Grantz) and I asked him, “who is that pianist...that cat can really play!" And he didn't know. And I had heard that you left the group, so I assumed that Birks had a new pianist. So the other night Norman and I were sitting at a table with Birks and we asked him “who was that pianist you used on that album you cut in London ?" And he looked at us funny and said “why that's your student, Michael Longo." I was shocked, that's how much your tone has grown since I last heard you. And you were playing your buns off on that record. ED, note: “Birks" is a nickname for Dizzy derived from his real name, John Birks Gillespie. Birks was his mother's maiden name. The album was recorded live from Ronny Scott's in London during the summer of 1973.
