In his annual summer seminar, NEC college faculty member and MacArthur Fellow Ran Blake focuses his attention on Chris Connor, arguably one of the most idiosyncratic white stylists" in jazz singing; with her husky timbre and long expressive phrases, Connor remains one of jazz's most nontraditional musicians. Ran Blake's one-week summer institute on the musical stylings of Chris Connor includes a public evening of reminiscences, discussion, recordings, and performances celebrating this extraordinary singer.
