New York, NY—Rale Micic, who is being hailed as “one of the most interesting young guitarists on the New York City scene," has turned to crowd funding, a new way of financing independent, creative projects, to produce a high-quality jazz music video for his composition “Serbology."

Crowd funding is a grassroots, web-based approach to raising money that allows fans to be directly involved in the creation of new projects. In an all-or-nothing bid, artists establish a financial goal and timeframe for their campaign and fans sign up to support the project in exchange for rewards. Micic has teamed up with the website RocketHub, which has successfully raised funds for music, film, fashion, and theatre ventures, among others. Last week, RocketHub introduced a new “Music Video" category specifically designed to coincide with the launch of Micic's campaign.

“I'm thrilled—it's only been a week and we've already reached over forty percent of our goal," said Micic. “I'm very optimistic—everyone seems to be responding to the idea that jazz deserves good video."

Rale Micic has also teamed up with Writer/Director/Producer Greg MacDonald, who wrote the script for the video and has worked to put hundreds of bands on television, and award- winning Director of Photography Jeff Turick, who has worked with such notable filmmakers as Ken Burns and Vincent Laforet. Both MacDonald and Turick signed on to the project on the strength of Micic's music as well as out of the belief that jazz should have a more prominent place in the mainstream.

“The evolution of the web and all kinds of mobile devices is making it possible to reach music fans in all kinds of new contexts," said Micic. “Music videos are making a comeback and I want to make sure jazz is well represented."

Audiences throughout the world have been captivated by Micic's mesmerizing compositions on his releases, Bridges (2003), Serbia, feat. Tom Harrell, (2006), as well as his most recent trio album, “3." Micic explores the interaction between his Serbian musical roots and his extensive knowledge of jazz, creating a sound that's unmistakably and recognizably his own.
