Portland based Jazz Singer Songwriter, Marti Mendenhall, releases her new Holiday Single, “Here I Am Home.” Recently featured in Oregon Music News, this will be Marti’s third CD and her first Holiday release.
Marti’s live shows and recordings are rich with originals that capture the essence of Jazz and the wide-appeal of Pop. “Here I Am Home” features a timeless, feel-good melody, with lyrics that speak of global togetherness, and the feeling that everywhere is home for the Holidays. Featuring Skip vonKuske’s creative, cross-genre touch on cello and a fabulous seventeen voice Christmas choir, Marti wraps Jazz and Pop together to set the sparkling tone of this new Holiday selection.
Marti is an Oregon native and holds a bachelor’s degree in Voice Performance from University of Northern Colorado. She has headlined and served as a clinician at both the 'Boise State' and 'Jazz in Jacoby' Jazz Festivals, and lists other highlighted performances at Portland 5, the Jack London Revue, Tony Starlight's Supper Club and the famed Jimmy Mak’s in Portland. Marti Mendenhall keeps expanding her talents into new projects and compositions. Her passion for music and great food has given rise to a new podcast called Sound Tasting PDX on Portland Radio Project, PRP.FM, “where food meets music,” which launched in October of this year.
With a birthday on Christmas Day and a sincere love of people, the lyrics of the song speak of longing for the past and the loneliness that can happen around the Holidays. “I wanted to write a song that brought people together,” says Marti as she talks about composing. “Christmas is that perfect opportunity to meet people, make new friends and participate in happiness.” Engineered by Justin Phelps (Amanda Palmer, Cake, Joe Satriani), other players include Portland’s own Skip vonKuske on cello (Cellotronik), Dave Captein on bass (Tom Grant, Ernestine Anderson, Nu Shooz), Todd Bishop
on drums ( Romero Lubambo, Billy Drummond) and Dustin Hunley on keys and a seventeen voice Christmas Choir.
“Here I Am Home,” available to digital distributors on November 17th, 2017. The physical CD release will be on Thanksgiving Day, November 23rd, and available through Band Camp and CD Baby.
