Pianist Laszlo Gardony Performs With His Trio On Wednesday, April 2, At 8:30 P.M. At Ryles

Acclaimed Boston pianist/composer Laszlo Gardony performs original compositions and arrangements of standards from his upcoming CD Ever Before Ever After (Sunnyside) - recorded live at WGBH radio - on Wednesday April 2nd at Ryles Jazz Club, 212 Hampshire Street, Cambridge, MA. Gardony will be performing with fellow Berklee College of Music faculty John Lockwood (bass) and Yoron Israel (drums), both featured on the CD to be released on May 13, 2003.

Pianist and composer Laszlo Gardony has been recognized worldwide for his extraordinary musicianship. He has released five albums as a leader, has toured in 22 countries, won numerous awards and appeared on television and radio programs throughout the world. Dave Brubeck calls him “a great pianist". JazzTimes has called Laszlo “one of contemporary music's original voices". While his music firmly rooted in the jazz and gospel tradition, it introduces new avenues of artistic expression.

Laszlos more recent activities include concerts with the David “Fathead" Newmans Quartet, with Joe Lovano (Joe Lovano and Friends), with John Blake Jr., (The Shelley Neill Group) and with the Wayfaring Strangers (Matt Glaser leader; featuring Bill Evans). The Wayfaring Strangers has received a rave review in the New York Times for their recent performance at the Bottom Line in New York. .

Laszlo Gardony was born in Hungary and has lived in Boston for the past twenty years, where he is a Professor of Piano at the Berklee College of Music. In 2001 his trio was invited to perform at the International Jazz Educators Conference, and he was part of a Berklee delegation giving clinics and performing in Dublin, Ireland.

On his previous recordings Laszlo worked with Dave Holland, Miroslav Vitous, Bob Moses, Mick Goodrick, Jamey Haddad, and many others. He has also been featured on numerous recordings by various artists. In 1987 he was the winner of Great American Jazz Piano Competition.

Drummer, Yoron Israel is the co-chair of Berklees Percussion Department. He has been featured on forty albums both as a sideman and as a leader. He performed and recorded with Grover Washington, Ahmad Jamal, Sonny Rollins and many others. Yoron has been playing with Laszlo in various groups as well as a member of Laszlos trio for three years.

Bassist, John Lockwood has toured with Freddie Hubbard, Joe Henderson, George Garzone and many others. He is an Associate Professor of Bass at Berklee.
