Grammy Nominated Pianist Joel Holmes releases an Ep with his new band The Green House Expansion.
The Green House Expansion was founded ONE year ago in Neukölln, Berlin. Their name comes from the multi-disciplinary artist studio/residence known as The Green House where the band rehearses and creates its compositions.
Lead by Grammy-Nominated pianist, Joel Holmes, the band features the award winning jazz bassist Martin Buhl, critically acclaimed Polish drummer, Kuba Gudz and their MC/DJ, Stimulus. Stimulus is most known for his collaborations with Mark Ronson, Chris Dave & Robert Glasper as well as for being the first Hip Hop artist to perform at New York's legendary Blue Note jazz club.
The four artists came together with the goal to bring Hip Hop and Jazz audiences together in a unique Berlin way.
“Jazz is like the grandfather. Funk would be the father. And that makes Hip-Hop the Grandchild." —Joel Holmes.
On February 15th, The Green House Expansion released their first EP Take One. In the spirit of classic jazz albums, the project features six one-take recordings. Raw and Uncut. Detroit-native and Slum Village Keyboardist, Vernon D. Hill joined new comer Chris Beatz to engineer the project.
Female vocalists Mizmoni & Nanghiti are also featured on the exploratory project that simultaneously offers musical depth and a laid back vibe.
