Philadelphia Jazz Coalition's Town Hall Meeting Set for July 31st

You're invited! The Philadelphia Jazz Coalition will present a town hall meeting for jazz on Tuesday, July 31st from 5:30-8:00PM at the Philadelphia Clef Club of Jazz and Performing Arts at Broad and Fitzwater St.

Open to the Entire Community - FREE
Buffet will be available for about $10



Featuring: panel discussions by noteworthy presenters, organizations, city representatives and members of the jazz community moderated by broadcasting veteran Orien Reid and the unveiling of the April 2012 “Great Day in Philadelphia" photo by photographer Elena Bouvier who will award 200 signed, digital prints of this historic photo to all of the musicians who took part this past April with Mayor Nutter.

Elena Bouvier has been published in Down Beat, Jazz Times, The Wall Street Journal and numerous other local and national publications.

Mrs. Orien Reid Nix won the respect of business and local radio and television viewers for 26 years in broadcasting as a television and radio consumer reporter (NBC and CBS). Mrs. Reid Nix has also gained respect for her volunteer work with the Alzheimer’s Association and Alzheimer's Disease International. She currently chairs the University of Pennsylvania External Advisory Board of the Institute on Aging (2009-2012). She has also been a member of the National Advisory Council on Aging (2007-2010) and an advisory board member to the National Institutes of Health Council of Councils (2007-2010), Jefferson Hospital’s Farber Institute for Neurosciences, and Dickens Auxiliary Board of Abington Memorial Hospital.

The Philadelphia Jazz Coalition will present a Town Hall Meeting for Jazz on Tuesday, July 31, 2012 from 5:30 pm to 8 pm at the Philadelphia Clef Club of Jazz and Performing Arts located at Broad & Fitzwater, Philadelphia, PA. The Town Hall Meeting is being assembled to announce the formation of the Philadelphia Jazz Coalition and to discuss its mission and future in the Philadelphia area jazz community. In addition to panel discussions, the “Great Day in Philadelphia” photo, which was taken in April 2012 in front of the John Coltrane House in West Philadelphia, will be unveiled by the photographer Ellen Bouvier. The “Great Day in Philadelphia” photo, reminiscent of the “Great Day in Harlem” photo, is the second photo taken in front of the John Coltrane House (the first photo was taken for the Philadelphia Weekly newspaper by Ellen Bouvier in 1995).

The Philadelphia Jazz Coalition is an alliance of jazz presenters, musicians, promoters, educators and all affiliated professions that are part of the jazz community in the Greater Philadelphia Metro area who are dedicated to building the awareness of the local jazz sound. Through live performances and educational outreach, this alliance seeks to sustain, nourish, preserve and promote the unique history and tradition of Philadelphia jazz.
