Norwalk, CT May 11, 2007 - Guitarist/Composer performs new music plus Horace Silver classics at the historic Silvermine Tavern, Saturday, June 9th.

Peter Hand's musical career has encompassed nearly every aspect of jazz. A New York-based composer, performer, arranger and leader, Hand's original compositions and arrangements have been performed by such artists as George Coleman, Houston Person, Lee Konitz, Don Braden, Valery Ponomarev, Jim Rotondi, Mike Abene, Richard Wyands and Carmen Lundy.

After founding the Peter Hand Big Band and conceiving and co-founding The Westchester Jazz Orchestra, Peter has continued to write new music for his quartet and quintet while keeping up a steady schedule of teaching and performing. You can hear Peter on the latest CD by saxophonist Jeff Hackworth, “How Little We Know" on Big Bridge Music-- recorded at Rudy Van Gelder's famed Blue Note Records recording studio.

Now Peter and his quartet return to the site of their tribute to Horace Silver last September-- to perform new original compositions and arrangements, plus some of the ever popular Latin and Brazilian flavored classics from the Horace Silver songbook.

Norwalk native Horace Silver is one of the true giants of jazz. The pianist's timeless standards such as “Strollin", “Peace", “Nica's Dream", “The Cape Verdean Blues", “Song for my Father" and “Senor Blues" still sound as fresh and swinging as ever, and all his music is infused with a special gift for melody, infectious grooves and sophisticated harmony.

Joining Peter in the quartet will be three master musicians well known to jazz fans, and each a leader in his own right. Pianist, composer and jazz scholar Dr. Lewis Porter has performed with jazz artists such as Wycliffe Gordon, Ravi Coltrane, Dave Liebman and Billy Taylor, and is the author of a definitive biography of John Coltrane. Bassist and composer Harvie S is one of the giants of jazz bass and Latin jazz, and has performed with Stan Getz, Pat Metheny, Michael Brecker, Toots Thielemans, Joe Lovano, Paquito D'Rivera, Ray Barretto, Dave Valentin and countless others. Drummer and composer Chip White has performed with Carmen McCrae, Jon Faddis, James Moody, Tom Waits, Mulgrew Miller, Houston Person and Etta Jones, and Savion Glover.

June will be busting out with great Jazz from The Peter Hand Quartet-- at the historic Silvermine Tavern, where hospitality, fine dining and sublime music all come together to create an early summer evening to remember.

Saturday June 9, 2007, 9pm at The Silvermine Tavern, 194 Perry Avenue, Norwalk, CT. Call for information: 203-847-4558; 888-693-9967.
