Montreal, June 13, 2005 ─ The Montreal Chamber Music Festival closes its 10th year of programming with an enchanting series of classical and jazz concerts at the Chalet atop Mount Royal. Memories of childhood will be reawakened by Thursday’s concert, featuring Ravel’s Mother Goose Suite, Poulenc’s The Story of Babar and Saint-Saëns’ Carnival of the Animals. Friday night is Jazz night and this year’s season closes with a performance by Oliver Jones, who will surround himself with some of his favourite emerging and established jazz musicians. The Festival closes on Saturday June 18th with music and letters by Tchaikowsky, providing an intimate and rare look into the mind and soul of the artist. The Montreal Chamber Music Festival, with performances at the Chalet atop Mount Royal until June 18th, is under the direction of its founder, Denis Brott and the Jazz Series artistic direction of Oliver Jones.

June 16 : Stories in Music Everyone loves a good story. Tonight’s concert features three that are sure to speak to the child within. The classic tale of Babar the Elephant with music by Poulenc will be read by celebrated soprano Rosemarie Landry. The ever popular Carnival of the Animals by Saint-Saens and Mother Goose Suite by Ravel round out the repertoire. Featured artists include award winning pianists, Rimouski-native David Jalbert and Montrealer Wonny Song, both award-winners and international rising-stars. Also performing, Jonathan Crow, Scott St. John, Douglas McNabney, Denis Brott, René Gosselin, Marie-Josée Simard, Marie-Andrée Benny and Simon Aldrich.

June 17: On stage with Oliver Jones Oliver Jones and his friends offer the Festival a most wonderful 10th anniversary present: the genius of their improvisational music. Oliver will be joined on stage by Eric Lagacé, Richard Paris, Richard Ring and Walli Mohamed.

June 18 : Dear Tchaikowsky: Music & Intimate Letters Despite a life as a closet homosexual, Tchaikowsky maintained an intense written relationship with his patron, Madame von Meck. Although the pair never met, they exchanged copious amounts of amorous letters. Excerpts of this revealing correspondence will be read in both English and French, allowing a better understanding of Tchaikowsky’s torment and remarkable talent. Some of the finest musicians from Canada and abroad perform; a perfect example of the Festival’s tradition of musical marriages bringing together artists of international distinction in unique combinations. Featured artists: Narrators Gabriel Gascon, Nina Hellman, Rosemarie Landry and Jeremy Shamos, Orion Weiss on piano, Scott St. John and Jonathan Crow on violin, Zuill Bailey and Denis Brott on cello and Paul Coletti and Douglas McNabney on viola.
