The opening of the SFJAZZ Center in San Francisco will bring the country its first free-standing building for jazz and an exciting night for music fans. NPR Music, WWOZ 90.7FM New Orleans and WBGO 88.3FM Newark, will mark the occasion with a live broadcast of the Center’s sold-out Historic Opening Night Concert as a live video stream at NPR.org/music and via NPR Music mobile apps. A live audio broadcast will also air on WWOZ, WBGO, KALW in San Francisco, and public radio stations across the country.

SFJAZZ Center’s inaugural concert presents a star-filled lineup on the stage of its Robert N. Miner Auditorium. Hosted by Bill Cosby, the concert features McCoy Tyner, Chick Corea, Joshua Redman, Bobby Hutcherson, Esperanza Spalding, Mary Stallings, Eric Reed, John Handy, Pete Escovedo, the SFJAZZ Collective of Miguel Zenón on alto saxophone, Avishai Cohen on trumpet, Robin Eubanks on trombone, Stefon Harris on vibraphone, Edward Simon on piano, Matt Penman on bass, David Sánchez on tenor saxophone, and Jeff Ballard on drums, and the SFJAZZ Center Resident Artistic Directors including three MacArthur “Genius” Fellows – pianist Jason Moran, violinist Regina Carter, and saxophonist Miguel Zenón along with Grammy-winning guitarist Bill Frisell, and Five-time Grammy-nominated percussionist John Santos plus the SFJAZZ High School All Stars.

Audiences worldwide can experience the event as it happens in the broadcast, hosted by WWOZ’s Sondra Bibb and WBGO's Josh Jackson on air. NPR Music's Patrick Jarenwattananon will host online and also moderate a live chat where viewers can discuss the show. A version of the concert will be archived for on-demand listening at NPR Music, and videos of select performances will also be available. Highlights can also be heard on upcoming episodes of the public radio program JazzSet with DeeDee Bridgewater.

Located in San Francisco’s vibrant Hayes Valley, The SFJAZZ Center will be a hub of art, music, culture and community in the Bay Area alongside major arts institutions including the San Francisco Symphony, San Francisco Opera, and San Francisco Ballet in the Civic Center performing arts district.
