New New Orleans Swamp Donkeys Two Hot New Studio Releases “Facebook Song" Takes Off “Charleston" & Other Classics Dazzle

June 2014 NYC Schedule
Including B.B. King's - June 9

May 2014 - Fresh off their appearance at JazzFest 2014, the hottest new jazz band in the Big Easy-The New Orleans Swamp Donkeys-have taken the bold step of simultaneously releasing two studio albums.

Their first, entitled “Swamp Donkey," consists of a dozen standards from the early 20th century canon-rendered in a newly invigorated version of traditional “jass." The second, “Donkey Business," showcases original music written, produced, and arranged by the band, with many songs-including the new hit, “I Can't Stop Logging on Facebook"-from rising singer-songwriter Sam Friend.

The New Orleans Swamp Donkeys Traditional “Jass" Band are comprised of six musical virtuosi-all in their 20s-who play traditional jazz, blues, “jass" originals, vaudeville, modern jazz adaptations, and other jazz and New Orleans- derived styles. Fronted by the magnetic trumpeter-vocalist James Williams (who has been repeatedly compared to Louis Armstrong) and by Sam Friend on banjo, the band consists of the electrifying Wes Anderson IV (son of jazz legend Wessell “Warmdaddy" Anderson) on sousaphone, the versatile Jon Ramm on trombone (known to maneuver the slide of his instrument, on occasion, with one bare foot), the rollicking (and perennial heartthrob) Josh “Jams" Marotta on percussion, and the astoundingly gifted newcomer Joe Goldberg on clarinet, saxophone, and piano - and sometimes two at a time.

The Swamp Donkeys, who have played throughout the U.S. (recently selling out two sets at the Blue Note in New York City), are about to embark on a European tour. Both of the new albums are available at your favorite music stores, including iTunes, Amazon, Spotify and many others.

“Young devotees whose balance of spunk and funk keeps the heart of traditional jazz beating."- The New Yorker

“One of the zingiest of the new hot jazz bands from the Crescent City"-The Wall Street Journal “A brand new combo, already drawing crowds in New Orleans [and] New York." —VanityFair.com

“'Hot' attitude and soloistic derring-do.... [Their] energy transforms something old into something new with commitment and intelligence." —Jazziz
