Joe Krown Trio, featuring the best in New Orleans funk performs Tues Nov 13 at The Hamilton! Funky guitarist and soulful singer, Sol Roots opens the show!

“A killer collaboration between three of New Orleans greatest players!" —Jan Ramsey, Offbeat Magazine

Joe Krown Trio some of the greatest New Orleans funk and R&B musicians! Joe Krown grooves hard on the Hammond B-3. Joe toured steadily with the legendary Gatemouth Brown. Joe is joined by Walter Washington “Wolfman" Washington, who has nothing but straight soul coming out of his guitar, and Russell Batiste on drums. That would be Russell Batiste, drummer in the Funky Meters. Yes- The Meters! Russell is one of the most powerful drummers in the music scene today.

Joe Krown (Hammond B-3 organ), Walter Wolfman Washington (guitar & vocals) & Russell Batiste (drums & background vocals) started playing together in March 2007. The trio has been performing every Sunday at a local New Orleans nightclub, the Maple Leaf Bar. The combination of the soulful vocals of Walter with the big sound of the Hammond B-3 (which Joe also plays all of the bass parts on the B-3) and the masterful drumming skills of Russell Batiste Jr. has developed it's own unique sound. The trio recorded and released a live CD, Live at the Maple Leaf in the fall of 2008. Live at the Maple Leaf captures the magic of these great musicians. Live at the Maple won a 2009 Offbeat Award for Best R&B/Funk CD. The trio also won a 2009 Big Easy Award in the “Best Rhythm & Blues Band" category. In the fall of 2010, the Trio released Triple Threat, the follow up to Live at the Maple Leaf and their first studio CD.

Sol Roots is a fierce guitarist and soulful singer who has toured the world with many roots, funk, and blues legends. Sol and his band create a unique blend of energetic rock, gritty blues, jazz, and raw funk, all delivered with deep soul. Sol Roots has toured across the east coast U.S. at many premier festivals and venues and have been on bills with Jon Cleary, Soulive, The Wood Brothers, Robert Randolph, Jackie Greene, Eric Lindell, Walter Wolfman Washington and more.

Sol has performed on stage and in the studio with musical heavyweights Taj Mahal, Kenny Wayne Shepard, and with the international guitar hero Cool John Ferguson, who he performed with steadily for years. Sol has soaked in much from funk, blues, and soul heroes such as Roy Lee Johnson, Albert White, and Robert Lee Coleman, while touring and gigging with these artists. Sol also created a buzz with his underground blues hiphop album entitled “Volume: Blue," that carried him overseas to perform these sets live.

With a love of Universal Music as the guiding light, Sol steps out on a path with a unique and talented band of musicians.
