TANGLED TALES ARRIVES IN MARCH

Dan Hicks, the man that introduced ragtime and tin pan alley to long hairs in the early '70s, returns with his Hot Licks on a brand-new collection, Tangled Tales, arriving March 24, 2009 on Surfdog Records. Featuring the same swinging music and insightful charm that has endeared him to audiences and fellow artists alike, Tangled Tales features a world-class collection of musical talent, including instrumental virtuosos David Grisman, Charlie Musselwhite and slide-guitarist Roy Rogers on nine new original tunes and some choice cover tunes, too.

Dan Hicks counter-culture appeal, which has twice landed him on the cover of Rolling Stone , has always been rooted in his songwriting. His lyrics have been touted as some of the sharpest- tongued, driest-witted and subtly hilarious bits of irreverence ever committed to rhyme. He sets these lyrical gems to quirky, quiet, quagmiric tunes that trade on a bagful of jazz chords and an irresistibly propulsive rhythm. Produced by Grammy-winning roots music producer Chris Goldsmith, the warmth of the recording and the quality of the songwriting are evident throughout Tangled Tales.

Here's a bit of vintage Hicks and his Licks from the Flip Wilson Show in 1972. Put your straw in this tasty lil' milkshake, kids!
