National Steinbeck Center and Monterey Jazz Festival team up for intimate concert and dinner, benefiting youth programs of both organizations

August 25 - Salinas, CA - The second annual Jazz with Steinbeck takes place Wednesday, September 13, 2006 from 5:30 to 10:00PM at the National Steinbeck Center at One Main Street in Salinas. Jazz with Steinbeck is a collaborative event, presented by the National Steinbeck Center and the Monterey Jazz Festival that benefits the youth programs of both organizations.

Jazz with Steinbeck transforms the Center into an intimate jazz supper club mixing great music, gourmet cuisine and fine wines. Jazz with Steinbeck is presented by Rabobank. Supporting sponsors include Bernardus, Paula and Sam Downing, the Kobrinsky and Evans families, Lombardo & Gilles, Scheid Vineyards, Taylor Farms, and event hosts are Kasavan Architects and Mills Family Farms.

According to Jeff Gilles, chair of the National Steinbeck Center Board of Trustees, “Jazz with Steinbeck is a unique pairing of food, wine, and jazz, and for those who wish to make a donation to these two organizations at this level, they are sure to have a once in a lifetime experience."

Jazz with Steinbeck will feature three sets of jazz performances hand picked by Tim Jackson, General Manager and Artistic Director of the Monterey Jazz Festival. Performers for Jazz with Steinbeck include: the Taylor Eigsti Quartet featuring Julian Lage with special guest vocalist Erin Boheme; Trio Paradiso, a great latin / tango blend of guitar, bass and accordion with Steve Erquiaga on guitar Rich Kuhns on accordion, and Rich Girard on bass; and Sasha Dobson / Richard Julian, singer-songwriters in a jazz / pop tradition with guitar and Tony Scherr on bass.

Chef Cal Stamenov of Bernardus will create an exceptional gourmet experience which will be matched with premium wines and champagne chosen by Bernardus Wine Director Mark Jensen and The Sardine Factory's Marc Cutino.

Jazz with Steinbeck is limited to 130 guests. General admission tickets are $500 per person and VIP / Reserved seating tickets are $1,000 per person. During this year's Monterey Jazz Festival, September 15 - 17, 2006, there will be an exhibit of Cannery Row memorabilia from the National Steinbeck Center archives at the Monterey Jazz Festival. The exhibit is curated by Leti Bocanegra of the National Steinbeck Center in honor of Dave Brubeck's new piece “The Cannery Row Suite," which will be performed on September 17th on the final night of the Monterey Jazz Festival.
