Monterey Jazz Festival’s Monterey County All-Star Band and Vocal Honor Jazz Ensemble Perform in British Columbia and Seattle, June 29-July 4

All-Star Band and Vocal Ensemble Perform at San Jose Jazz Festival, August 11; Jazz on the Plazz in Los Gatos, August 22; West End Celebration in Sand City, August 24; and at 55th Monterey Jazz Festival, September 23


Monterey, CA; On June 29, the Monterey Jazz Festival’s Monterey County High School All-Star Band and High School Honor Vocal Jazz Ensemble will depart for a six-day tour to the Pacific Northwest with performances in Seattle, and Vancouver and Victoria in British Columbia, Canada.

During the All-Star Band's and Vocal Honor Jazz Ensemble’s tour, they will perform in British Columbia, Canada at the Vancouver International Jazz Festival (June 30); the Victoria International Jazz Festival (July 1) and Dimitriou's Jazz Alley in Seattle (July 3).

“These are Monterey County’s top high school performing jazz musicians and vocalists, selected individually by Monterey Jazz Festival Traveling Clinicians, and they have worked diligently to attain a seat in these two exciting ensembles,” said Paul Contos, Education Director of the Monterey Jazz Festival. “The All-Star Big Band and the Honor Vocal Jazz Ensemble are superbly directed by Paul Lucckesi and Kerry Marsh, two of the top nationally-known jazz directors. Mr. Marsh is also recognized as one of the foremost composers and arrangers in the vocal jazz ensemble field, and this year’s summer tour itinerary is one that jazz professionals would be proud of!”

After their return from the Pacific Northwest, the Monterey County High School All-Star Band and High School Honor Vocal Jazz Ensemble will perform at the San Jose Jazz Festival on August 11 at 5:00 and 6:00 p.m. respectively, on the Tech Stage. Both the All-Star Band and the Vocal Honor Ensemble will also perform at Jazz on the Plazz in Los Gatos on Wednesday, August 22, from 6:30-8:30 p.m. The Jazz on the Plazz concert is free, and will take place at the Los Gatos Town Plaza, at the intersection of West Main Street and Santa Cruz Avenue in downtown Los Gatos. The All-Star Band will then be featured at the West End Celebration in Sand City on Friday, August 24, at 7:00 p.m. The bands will also make their traditional appearance at the Monterey Jazz Festival on Sunday, September 23 in the Night Club.

The Monterey County High School All-Star Band, directed by renowned saxophonist and director Paul Lucckesi, includes the best and brightest student musicians from the Festival's home county. Members are selected by the Festival’s Traveling Clinicians who visit Monterey schools once a month during the school year for one-on-one instruction in jazz, and include jazz musicians from Carmel, Gonzalez, Pacific Grove, Palma, Salinas, Stevenson, York High Schools. The Monterey County High School Honor Vocal Jazz Ensemble, directed by Kerry Marsh, showcases Monterey County’s best vocalists, also selected by the Travelling Clinicians, and features vocalists from Carmel, Monterey, Santa Catalina, Salinas, and Stevenson High Schools.
