Jazz lovers will be delighted to have a new spot to experience top names on the jazz scene with the opening of Mitchell's Bar & Grill, located at 259 Flatbush Avenue, right on the Park Slope - Prospect Heights border in Brooklyn.

The brainchild of Michel Issa, who for 20 years had operated the former Charcuterie Deli across the street with his brother Mike, the new restaurant is a welcome addition to this Brooklyn neighborhood. Long anticipated by former fans who loved the fresh and fabulous food assortment of the brothers' former deli, the restaurant's quiet opening has already attracted food lovers from far and wide across the boroughs.

Now, with Grand Opening Events scheduled for four evenings, from September 13 through September 16, Mitchell's is declaring its commitment to providing quality live music on a regular basis. The kickoff show on Thursday, September 13, features well-known (his latest CD has been nominated for a Grammy) jazz saxaphonist Bradford Hayes' Quintet.

Allowing for no slack, Friday, September 14, will feature long time jazz saxophonist Leo Johnson, who's recorded with no less than Chico Mendoza, Jimmy McGriff, Jack McDuff Quintet, Jimmy Witherspoon, and Johnny Hammond, and recently produced a CD of his own compositions.

Rocking the house Saturday, September 15, is a powerhouse lineup featuring Vince Seneri, master of the Hammond B3 Organ, together with flautist Dave Valentin, and special guest artist Paul Bollenbach on guitar.

For something completely different on Sunday, September 16, live Middle Eastern music with Elias Sarkar's Quartet will also be graced with several Oriental dancers including the legendary Morocco. For the Grand Opening Weekend, Mitchell's will not be charging a music cover, and a multiple choice menu will be prix fixe. Sunday afternoon September 16 will also feature a free wine tasting.

With a nod to their former deli's years-long loyal following, the brothers have designed the entry area of the restaurant as an eat-in or take out deli. But very quickly, these customers have also discovered what's behind the elegant wine red drapes at the back of the room: a beautifully appointed restaurant with a menu featuring everything from Kobe steak, duck, and ribs to babaghanoush and tabouli!

The next surprise is the stairway going downstairs to an intimate bar with French doors leading to a spectacular garden dining area with a waterfall. The downstairs bar is where the entertainment will be happening, with current plans to feature jazz at least 3 nights a week and other rotating entertainment, including Middle Eastern music, another night or two.

The deli menu features all of the sandwiches and hot food that made the former deli famous, while the restaurant provides a first class dining experience with food to match. The brothers have added an in-house baker who makes artisan breads, cakes, biscotti, and delicious desserts.

Word about the restaurant has already spread rapidly, with daily lines in the deli, and people are fast catching on to the secrets behind the curtain.
