The Band, featured on this record is the same Band which opened the JVC Jazz Festival in 2002, playing at the Schoenberg; received standing ovations at The Clef Club in Philadelphia; and was declared the “Highlight” of The Mellon Jazz Festival. The high intensity of this Band of Players, with their ‘take no prisoners’ attitude promises to be a rare Musical treat, and is not to be missed! Always maintaining that Powerhouse ‘mix’, the players will include: James Spaulding; Alto sax, George Cables; Piano, Eric Allen; Drums and Bandleader Mickey Bass; Bass

“Mickey Bass’s long-running ensemble is hard bop with fire and soul; the jumping quintet always lives up to its name.” Gary Giddins.

“It was clearly The Highlight of the Mellon Jazz Festival! The work of The New York Powerhouse Ensemble at “The Crawford Grill”, stood far above all the other festival events because of the sax mans’ (Abraham Burton) playing and the work of the rest of the group, led by Hill District native; Bassist Mickey Bass, and featuring pianist John Hicks and Drummer Eric Allen. Bob Karlovits

All About Jazz needs your support

All About Jazz & Jazz Near You were built to promote jazz music: both recorded and live events. We rely primarily on venues, festivals and musicians to promote their events through our platform. With club closures, shelter in place and an uncertain future, we've pivoted our platform to collect, promote and broadcast livestream concerts to support our jazz musician friends. This is a significant but neccesary effort that will help musicians now, and in the future. You can help offset the cost of this essential undertaking by making a donation today. In return, we'll deliver an ad-free experience (which includes hiding the bottom right video ad). Thank you.
