Mickey Bass & His Manhattan Burn Unit April 11 a Blues Alley

Mickey Bass; legendary Bassist & “Early Bird" recording Artist, will be Leading His “Manhattan Burn Unit"; making a 'one night only' appearance on; Wednesday April 11th 2007, at; the Landmark Jazz Venue; “Blues Alley", 1073 Wisconsin Avenue NW. Washington, DC 20007. This special Evening promises to be 'a hot time in the old town this night!' So do yourself a 'flavor', of well deserved 'hot and heavy' 'straight-ahead' 'Hard-Bop'; This Band - through its' many 'incarnations', has consistently bought forward the standards & traditions established by the 'Originals' - from whom this Music 'sprung'.

Mickey's long & fulfilling career has led him to; performing or recording with “Who's really Who" in this great American Art form known as “Jazz'. Some of the very special people, with whom he has performed are; Billy Eckstine, Art Blakey & The Jazz Messengers, Lee Morgan, Bobby Timmons, Freddie Hubbard, Gloria Lynn, Hank Mobley, Carmen McRae.....and that's just for 'starters'!

Mickeys' achievements are many; Educator, Innovator, Composer, Arranger, Musical Director,Producer of Jazz Series' & Records - He is “a regular 'spark-plug' on the Harlem Music Scene"; An 'Elder Statesman' on The World Jazz Scene today.

Augmenting the Band will be; the 'blossoming' talents of either; Greg Murphy, or Carlton Holmes on Piano; both very much 'up-and-coming', Artists...with 'pedigrees' which include; Rashied Ali, Ravi Coltrane, Harry Connick, Jr., James Blood Ulner, Kiani Zawadi, Lionel Hampton, Michael Carvin, Freddie Hubbard, Max Roach, Stevie Wonder, Diane Reeves, Regina Belle & Donald Byrd, respectively...

Mickey will also be ably assisted by; a very talented unsung hero of the tenor and soprano saxophones Charles Davis Jr. who arrived in New York, from Milwaukee, & has worked with the likes of Roy Haynes.....which speaks volumes.

Last and surely not least is the drummer; a young man named Emmanuel Harrold; whos' Mentors include Joe Chambers; his recent appearances include playing with Myron Walden in “Brownstone Entertainments" “Be-bop Heritage series..Then...& Now"@ the newly re-opened 'Minton's Playhouse'; and with Sandra Reeves-Phillips & Eric Wyatt.

If you love 'straight-ahead' 'Hard-Bop' in the Classic Tradition; do yourself a 'flavor' and come hear us breathe Life back into this Music!
