No Cover, Drink Minimum

Acclaimed singer Michelle Walker brings her rich arrangements, electrifying band and unique style of jazz to one of New York City's best loved jazz clubs. She will be performing at The 55 Bar on Saturday March 31, 2007 from 6:00pm-9:00pm. Michelle's resume has a number of prestigious concerts and festival performances, including The Lincoln Center-Women in Jazz Festival, The Silver Spring Jazz Festival, The East Coast Jazz Festival, Goshen Jazz Festival and The Rehoboth Beach Jazz Festival.

Michelle is often compared to Cassandra Wilson, Nina Simone and Betty Carter in style and tone. She has opened in concert for Wynton Marsalis, Rene Marie, Terrell Stafford, Chris Botti, George Benson and Mark Murphy. Her arrangements of straight-ahead standards and contemporary pop tunes blend genres effortlessly and with a undeniable level of originality that is solidifying her own distinctive sound. Dave Nathan at AllAboutJazz.com says, “Walker demonstrates an extraordinary degree of musicality." Joining Michelle will be The Daniela Schaechter Trio.

The 55 Bar is a prohibition era dive bar with incredible live Jazz, Funk & Blues nightly in greenwich village since 1919. If you've always wanted to sample the city's jazz scene this is your place. Unlike other, more devoutly traditional venues, this unpretentious basement gem showcases not only new players, but also new styles--which is what jazz used to be all about in the first place. The house seems to particularly favor funky, guitar-driven combos that'll have even the most jazz-resistant patrons tapping their feet. Early-evening sets are free.
