New York, NY - Critically acclaimed jazz vocalist, Michelle Walker, will perform the early set on Friday August 10, 2007 at one of New York City's most established and loved music watering-holes stages, The 55 BAR. Her two sets will consist of originals, new and old standards with her refreshing and engaging arrangements starting promptly at 6:00pm and 7:45pm.
Michelle has spent the past few years amassing an impressive musical resume of concert and festival performances, including The Lincoln Center-Women in Jazz Festival, The Silver Spring Jazz Festival, Goshen Jazz Festival and The Rehoboth Beach Jazz Festival. Michelle is often compared to Cassandra Wilson, Nina Simone and Betty Carter in style and tone. She has opened in concert for Wynton Marsalis, Rene Marie, Terrell Stafford, Chris Botti, George Benson and Mark Murphy. Her arrangements of straight-ahead standards and contemporary pop tunes blend genres effortlessly and with an undeniable level of originality that is solidifying her own distinctive sound. The 55 Bar is a funky live jazz dive built in 1919 with jazz its heart and blues its soul. Innovative playing is practically a requirement which is why its on the list of the best jazz clubs in NYC. There is no cover, so come out, hang and listen to some great music.
