New York, NY - Critically acclaimed jazz vocalist, Michelle Walker, will perform in concert at the intimate stage of the The Zinc Bar in its widely respected jazz lounge. She will be performing on Monday May 18th, 2009 with one sets starting at 7:30pm. Michelle has spent the past few years amassing an impressive musical resume of concert and festival performances, including The Lincoln Center-Women in Jazz Festival, The Silver Spring Jazz Festival, Goshen Jazz Festival and The Rehoboth Beach Jazz Festival as well as international tours as a leader and guest vocalist.
Michelle is often compared to Cassandra Wilson, Nina Simone and Betty Carter in style and tone. She has opened in concert for Wynton Marsalis, Rene Marie, Terrell Stafford, Chris Botti, George Benson and Mark Murphy. Her arrangements of straight-ahead standards and contemporary pop tunes blend genres effortlessly and with an undeniable level of originality that is solidifying her own distinctive sound. Dave Nathan at All About Jazz says, Walker sings with an extraordinary degree of musicality.
Walk through dark velvet curtains and enter the wonderland of New York City Jazz. For a few hours every Monday night the rest of the world does not exist, except for The Zinc Bar. Early Monday Sets feature the some of the most outstanding singers working in the city today including Gretchen Parlato, Gino Sitson, Sachal Vasandani. Even vocal great Claudia Acuna got her start in The Zinc Bar. Come join Michelle for this swingin' set. Following Michelle will be Ron Affif's group until 3am.
