New York, NY - Critically acclaimed jazz vocalist, Michelle Walker, will perform in concert at the intimate stage of the The Kitano Hotel in its widely respected jazz lounge. She will be performing on Thursday October 11, 2007 with two sets starting promptly at 8:00pm and 9:45pm. Michelle has spent the past few years amassing an impressive musical resume of concert and festival performances, including The Lincoln Center-Women in Jazz Festival, The Silver Spring Jazz Festival, Goshen Jazz Festival and The Rehoboth Beach Jazz Festival. This will be one of her last performances in the US before embarking on her tour in Israel this November.

Michelle is often compared to Cassandra Wilson, Nina Simone and Betty Carter in style and tone. She has opened in concert for Wynton Marsalis, Rene Marie, Terrell Stafford, Chris Botti, George Benson and Mark Murphy. Her arrangements of straight-ahead standards and contemporary pop tunes blend genres effortlessly and with an undeniable level of originality that is solidifying her own distinctive sound. Dave Nathan at All About Jazz says, “Walker sings with an extraordinary degree of musicality."

According to a recent review, The Kitano is “...one of the smaller and most intimate settings for serious jazz in Manhattan...[and]...is a perfect setting to enjoy richly textured, bop-propelled energy from virtuosic players...." The Kitano has been home to some of the most outstanding musicians, instrumental and vocal, working today including Eric Alexander, Harold Mabern, Joe Farnsworth, Cecil Payne, Bill Mays, Jean Michel Pilc, Kate McGarry, Don Braden, Roseanna Vitro, Michael Weiss, Gary Versace, Matt Wilson, Orrin Evans and Onaje Allan Gumbs.

Joining Michelle will be:

Daniela Schaechter ~ piano
Matt Aronoff ~ bass
Jacob Melchior ~ drums
