“Musillami commands attention, not with force but with sophistication and understatement, and bassist Joe Fonda and drummer George Schuller are co-creators in Musillami's captivating textures," wrote Cadence reviewer Bill Donaldson. The All Music Guide's Glenn Astarita described the trio as “awash with a sense of intimacy via the artists' close-knit musicianship," adding, “count on Musillami to offer the willing listener something a bit different than the tried and true."

Musillami has been called “one of the more imaginative guitarists in jazz" (Signal to Noise), “a distinctive, exemplary stylist," (JazzWeekly.com), and a “superb artisan" (AllAboutJazz.com). JazzTimes' Ron Wynn described his music as “honest, frequently surprising and consistently exciting," and AllAboutJazz-New York's David R. Adler noted, “Newer releases evidence that Musillami has come into his own...he is producing some of today's finest music within a developing group format." Along with his trio, Musillami also actively leads the quartet from his 2003 release, Those Times (Playscape PSR#J012603), and the all-star octet on his September 2004 release, Spirits (Playscape PSR#J020104), which pays tribute to the late Thomas Chapin.
