Teo Macero, the legendary jazz saxophonist, composer, and record producer who died on February 19, will be remembered at a memorial service on Sunday, May 18 at New York University's Frederick Loewe Theatre, 35 West 4th Street, from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. The memorial service is open to the public.

The NYU Jazz Orchestra will perform a selection of Macero's music with special guest soloists. Macero played an important role in helping to develop the NYU Jazz Program over the past five years. He produced two CD's with the NYU Jazz Orchestra featuring his original compositions.

Macero was a producer at Columbia Records for 20 years, and most notably produced the Miles Davis album Kind of Blue, which at #12, is the highest-ranked jazz album on Rolling Stone's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time, and according to the RIAA, is the best-selling jazz album of all time. Macero also produced Davis' Bitches Brew and Dave Brubeck's Time Out, which, along with Kind of Blue, are three of the best-known and most influential jazz albums of all time.

All About Jazz & Jazz Near You were built to promote jazz music: both recorded and live events. We rely primarily on venues, festivals and musicians to promote their events through our platform. With club closures, shelter in place and an uncertain future, we've pivoted our platform to collect, promote and broadcast livestream concerts to support our jazz musician friends. This is a significant but neccesary effort that will help musicians now, and in the future. You can help offset the cost of this essential undertaking by making a donation today. In return, we'll deliver an ad-free experience (which includes hiding the bottom right video ad). Thank you.
