MEMPHIS, TN, APRIL 25, 2007 - When Memphis natives Wendy Moten and Kirk Whalum take the stage with students of the Stax Music Academy during the SNAP! After School Spring Concert on Saturday, May 12th a the University of Memphis' Michael D. Rose Theater, that Memphis music magic that can happen only in the Bluff City will take center stage once again.

The concert begins at 7 p.m. Admission is $5 and tickets may be purchased at the Stax Museum of American Soul Music (926 E. McLemore Ave., Memphis, TN), phone with a major credit card (901-946-2535), and at the door night of show.

The Stax Music Academy Spring Concert 2007 will feature all four of the academy's ensembles: Stax Music Academy Rhythm Section, StreetCorner Harmonies, Premier Percussionists, and the Soulsville Swing Band. Whalum, the academy's Artist in Residence, last performed with the students to rave reviews in March during the academy's annual SoulSchool Spring Break concert at Buckman Performing and Fine Arts Center. This will be a very rare hometown performance for Moten, who is currently on tour in South America singing duets with Julio Inglesias.

Whalum and Moten will pair once again to perform the Stevie Wonder hit “All I Do," which the two recorded on his CD For you in 1998. Moten and the students will also perform her 1992 Top 40 Billboard hit ballad, “Come In Out of the Rain" from her self-titled Wendy Moten CD on EMI/ERG Records. In addition to her success as a Grammy-nominated solo artist, Moten has recorded duets and performed with the likes of Billy Preston, Steve Cropper, Michael McDonald, Peabo Bryson, and others.

The internationally renowned native Memphian Whalum continues to be one of the most sought after saxophonists and songwriters in the music industry. In addition to his own successful recording career of jazz and gospel albums, he has brought that sound to the music of many superstars, including Barbra Streisand, Al Jarreau, Quincy Jones, Luther Vandross and Whitney Houston, with whom he toured for seven years, playing, among other parts, his solo at the heart of Whitney's mega-hit, “I Will Always Love You."
