Jazz Celebration: Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Marc Cary & Friends with Special Guest Q-Tip

WHY:

Jazz at Lincoln Center in partnership with Target honor the intellect, bravery, passion and ingenuity of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. with free admission to all performances.

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was a music lover. When he spoke about jazz at the Berlin Jazz Festival, he said, “Jazz speaks for life. The blues tell the story of life's difficulties, and if you think for a moment, you will realize that they take the hardest realities of life and put them into music, only to come out with some new hope or sense of triumph. This is triumphant music. Modern jazz has continued in this tradition, singing the songs of a more complicated urban existence. When life itself offers no order and meaning, the musician creates an order and meaning from the sounds of the earth which flow through his instrument."

HOW:

“For the second year, Target is proud to support Jazz at Lincoln Center's musical tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.," said Laysha Ward, vice president, community relations, Target. “As a company, we are dedicated to practicing Dr. King's values of equality, respect and commitment to community responsibility and continue to honor his legacy through volunteerism and community giving."
