MURPHY JOINED BY ACCLAIMED JAZZ PLAYERS BEN ALLISON, JEFF BALLARD & JONATHAN KREISBERG

Mark Murphy is set to release his debut album To Find You There July 21, 2009. Murphy is a child of the 1970’s. Had he been old enough, he would have loved being a part of the burgeoning singer-songwriter movement of the day. At the time, New York City songwriters chose the best musicians they knew--often jazz and studio musicians--to record and perform with. After all, songwriting had become art, and those musical pioneers wanted fellow artists to help interpret their work. The style and sound of Murphy’s music is modern, but by recording with the premiere jazz artists of today, the feeling is classic.

He is an inspired singer/songwriter/guitarist and whether Murphy is teaching, writing, practicing or recording, every hour is spent immersed in music. In fact, his debut full length solo CD, To Find You There began at his school – Mark Murphy’s Music in New Jersey, which has over 400 enrolled students.

Murphy is joined by acclaimed jazz players Ben Allison on upright bass, Jeff Ballard on drums (Chick Corea, Brad Mehldau, Pat Metheny) and Jonathan Kreisberg on guitar.

In the end, this album is a cohesive cross section of the days spent in the studio. There are 6 tracks with drums and 4 tracks without--the latter four from trio sessions. Each musician made a definitive statement on the record and brought their best to Murphy’s compositions. To Find You There is a faithful fusion of classic songwriting and modern musicianship; it is both unique and timeless.
