Mark Berman, whose iconic montuno piano playing on the theme to “Sex and the City" assured his place in the pop culture pantheon, brings his hard- hitting power trio to 78 Below, 380 Columbus Avenue at 78th Street, tonight in a special Valentine's Day celebration from 10 pm 'til 1 am. Berman, whom Oscar host and Hollywood star Hugh Jackman (Les Misérables) calls “a rock of creativity" (the two have performed together live both in New York and Las Vegas), will air his new trio project in advance of a wider tour with fresh original tunes in a mash-up of jazz and rock with vocals, reminiscent of Bruce Hornsby, Jamie Cullum, and Ben Folds. For his latest venture, he has assembled an impressive groove duo: bassist Aiden Moore of Carney the Band and Joe Nero on drums, while Berman sings his new tunes and drives the piano. 78 Below, on Manhattan's Upper West Side, is fast becoming the go- to hangout for savvy music-lovers, attracting the likes of Sheryl Crow and Amy Grant, and many rock, jazz and R&B legends.

The Mark Berman Trio project serves both as a follow-up and a diversified counterpoint to his 2007 debut release, jazz vocal masterpiece The Genesis Project.

This event is free of charge, and the venue 78 Below NYC has a full menu of food and drinks available. Guests must be over 21 years of age to purchase alcohol. Identification is required.
