The Kitano, a coveted Manhattan venue known for its top shelf jazz.
This concert will feature new material and preview a few tracks from his upcoming album, TAKE ME ANYWHERE. At this performance, Marcus will team up once again with The Jon Davis Trio: Martin Wind, bass and Marcello Pellitteri, drums.
These new songs were born out of a demand from Marcus' audience for original material. This inspired him to channel his soulful no frills approach" (People Magazine) and apply it to his original material, bringing old world Jazz into the mainstream. When asked about his material, Marcus replied, I borrowed a technique from Irving Berlin and just thought of a new way to say, 'I love you.' After a few minutes, I began writing my first song, 'Take Me,' based on the beautiful relationship that my grandparents shared."
With TAKE ME ANYWHERE, Marcus creates a unique sound that is both familiar and accessible. The album will also feature his interpretation of several standards, deemed sensually intelligent and stylish" by the International Herald Daily News. His debut CD, THE MOMENT AFTER, has been recognized and praised by the top trades in the industry (Jazz Times, Jazz Improv, Hot House, and All About Jazz) as well as in the pop culture scene with a 3 (out of 4) star mention in People Magazine and as a 'retro pick' in New York Magazine.
Since his debut release, Marcus has played to packed houses all over Manhattan including Sweet Rhythm, The Metropolitan Room and The Cutting Room. He has also played in residency (2 years) at Penang's Downstairs Room and at The Benjamin Hotel.
The Kitano is located in the mezzanine of the Kitano Hotel, overlooking Park Avenue. This high-class establishment offers up a selection of canaps accompanied by libations that include rare malt whiskeys as well as the finest champagne and sake.
