MARC CARY's FOCUS TRIO at SWEET RHYTHM

FRI & SAT, AUGUST 11+12
Sets @ 8,10 & Midnight
88 Seventh Ave. South
Phone 212.255.3626

Leaping up the JazzWeek chart hitting number 12 this week with a bullet, Marc Cary is receiving overwhelmingly positive critical and audience acclaim for his new Motma release, Focus. The Focus Trio--featuring Marc Cary on piano, Sameer Gupta on drums and tablas and David Ewell on bass--is tight, right and could not be in better form as they swing from classical lyricism to indiginous rhythms to the deepest of bop.

The shows on the 11th and 12th at Sweet Rhythm are great opportunities to see Cary's trio in an intimate setting in NYC before he steps out to play with Stefon Harris and Blackout on a nationwide tour.

Sets at 8,10 & Midnight
Admission: $20 General public at the Door
$10 Motema Advance Reservation List

(To get on the Motema discount list, please send your name, and the number of people in your party, and the set you wish to attend to: [email protected] by 4 pm, Friday August 11th. When you arrive at the club let the door person know you are on the Motema list and you will receive your $10 discount.)

FEW WORDS FROM THE PRESS ABOUT MARC CARY'S FOCUS:

“Pianist Cary packs a devastating punch, deployed with clever rhythmic sense. He favors knotty melodies, but his meditative 'Voyage to the Inside' tugs heartstrings like a good spiritual. Even Sameer Gupta's tablas on two tracks fit Cary's expansive vision of mainstream jazz"--Entertainment Weekly

“Marc Cary has emerged as a provocative, high octane pianist and bandleader"--the Village Voice

“Cary is one of only a few young pianists to tackle the sound and percussion of Duke Ellington and Randy Weston ....he is onto something important"--New York Times

All About Jazz & Jazz Near You were built to promote jazz music: both recorded and live events. We rely primarily on venues, festivals and musicians to promote their events through our platform. With club closures, shelter in place and an uncertain future, we've pivoted our platform to collect, promote and broadcast livestream concerts to support our jazz musician friends. This is a significant but neccesary effort that will help musicians now, and in the future. You can help offset the cost of this essential undertaking by making a donation today. In return, we'll deliver an ad-free experience (which includes hiding the bottom right video ad). Thank you.
