The Jazzschool's annual fundraiser will be held Saturday, October 1 at Coventry Grove in Kensington, headlined by the fabulous Manhattan Transfer. The Jazzschool Advanced High School Jazz Workshop I opens the show, which will be emceed by radio host Clifford Brown Jr.
We are thrilled to present the Manhattan Transfer in this benefit concert supporting the Jazzschool's wide-ranging education programs," says Susan Muscarella, the school's Founder and Executive Director. Proceeds from this event will be used to expand our community outreach to students of all ages, level, and socioeconomic backgrounds. The award-winning Jazzschool Advanced High School Jazz Workshop I, directed by Michael Zilber, opens the Kensington concert at 7:00 pm. Manhattan Transfer takes the stage at 8:00.
Coventry Grove, the setting for several Jazzschool fundraisers in recent years, is a beautiful private estate in Kensington, just ten minutes from downtown Berkeley. It is an outdoor venue, and warm, comfortable clothes are advised.
Fare for the evening will include Berkeley's renowned Cheese Board pizza, the Jazzcaffe's specialty Caesar salad, Dreyer's Grand Ice Cream, cookies from Donsuemor Madeleines, artisan beverages from Peet's Coffee and Tea, and fine wines.
