Louie Bellson Returns for Concert

World-renowned drummer, composer and author Louie Bellson returns home to the Quad Cities for a special guest performance with the Manny Lopez Band on Wed., October 15 in the Redstone Room at the River Music Experience, 129 Main St., Davenport, Iowa. Doors open at 5:30 pm, and concert starts at 6 pm. Admission is $15 per person, and tickets go on sale online Sept. 24 at rivermusicexperience.org. Louie Bellson is also scheduled to make a special 'meet and greet' appearance on Tues., Oct. 14, from 4-5 pm. at West Music, 4305 44th Ave., Moline, IL.

Louie Bellson Biography...

Referred to by Duke Ellington as “not only the world's greatest drummer...(but also) the world's greatest musician!", Louie Bellson has expressed himself on drums since age three. At 15, he pioneered the double bass drum set-up, and by age 17 he triumphed over 40,000 drummers to win the Gene Krupa drumming contest. He has performed on more than 200 albums with such greats as Duke Ellington, Count Basie, Benny Goodman, Tommy Dorsey, Harry James, Woody Herman, Sarah Vaughan, Ella Fitzgerald, Oscar Peterson, Dizzy Gillespie, Louie Armstrong, Lionel Hampton, James Brown, Sammy Davis Jr., Tony Bennett, Mel Torme, Joe Williams, Wayne Newton and Bellson's late wife Pearl Bailey.
