On Saturday, August 7, 2010, National Public Radio's JazzSet with Dee Dee Bridgewater came to the Litchfield Jazz Festival to record bassist Mario Pavone's live performance of a new work with his group Orange Double Tenor. The Festival, which celebrated its 15th Anniversary that weekend in Kent, CT, was honored to present Pavone's commission from Chamber Music America's New Jazz Works: Commissioning and Ensemble Development Program with funding from the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation. Each year in a peer-reviewed process, some ten composers from a pool of more than one hundred are chosen to realize their proposed works. The composer has one year to write the piece, and six months to premiere it. Mr. Pavone was one of the few composers chosen for this opportunity.
Mario Pavone's Arc Suite, performed live at the Litchfield Jazz Festival, will air in surround sound on 115 NPR stations, including the flagship WBGO Jazz 88. In the week beginning November 11, 2010, JazzSet will feature Arc Suite, by bassist Mario Pavone. In five movements, Pavone reaches back through his 45-year career, which began in free-flowing jam sessions in the lofts of New York City. Pavone composed Arc Suite to feature the members of his long-running sextet, featuring Jimmy Greene, Peter Madsen, Tony Malaby, Dave Ballou, and Gerald Cleaver.

Mr. Pavone is a long-time instructor at the Festival's educational-arm, Litchfield Jazz Camp, and is the president of the non-profit board of Litchfield Performing Arts, the organization that produces the Festival and Camp.
While at the Festival, JazzSet's team were so excited by what they heard that on the week beginning November 18, they will air another program featuring other live performances from the 2010 Litchfield Jazz Festival, by the Gerald Clayton Trio and the Gabriel Alegria Afro-Peruvian Sextet.
