Boy K, receiving the Lifetime Achievement Award This year, by unanimous decision of the Philippine Association of the Recording Industry (PARI) board, Boy Katindig had been chosen to be one of the artists to receive the Dangal Ng Musikang Pilipino Award (Lifetime Achievement Award) in the 23rd Annual Awit Awards. He was recognized for his exemplary and outstanding achievement as one of the pioneering artists in the propagation of original Filipino music and as an award-winning songwriter and producer.

Boy Katindig, the 2010 Awit Awards Lifetime Achievement Awardee “It came quite early 'cause I'm not done yet," quoted the jazz artist in his acceptance speech in the Awards Ceremony in SM Centerstage last September 30, 2010.

True enough, he sure is not done yet. In fact, he's scheduled to fly to Kuala Lumpur for a live performance recording in KL's primier jazz club, No Black Tie, collaborating with some of Malaysia's top musicians. The record will be released in Malaysia in December, followed by a show in Singapore.

Moreover, just recently, Yupangco Music Corporation (YMC) has just made Boy K, not just a Yamaha endorser, but also a Yamaha Clinician. Starting this November, Boy K is scheduled to tour the Philippines to conduct music clinics starting with Cebu, Iloilo, Davao and Cagayan de Oro.

YMC's President, Mr. Philip Yupangco, agrees that there is no other artist who can fill this role in the Philippines but Boy K. Yamaha, being the number one music company in the world, has the highest standards and so far, only Boy Katindig meets it to represent the brand.

After his recording in KL, Boy K will be back for a show in Hard Rock Cafe Makati called, “SAY WHAT? Contemporary Jazz at its hippest!" The third of a series of “Say What?" shows. The first show was a hit, having a SRO crowd at The BKJC in Greenhills last July 3. The second show last September 18 was held in the new Vue Bar at The Bellevue Manila in Alabang had also been well-attended, with fans coming all the way from the northern and eastern parts of Metro Manila, and a surprise impromptu number with Boy K's former Circus band mates, who were there to watch the show.

Boy Katindig will be joined onstage with an all-male vocal-oriented R&B band called, Mo- Teef. Also featured in the show, and reuniting with Mr. Katindig, is his former band mate, award-winning vocalist, Maritoni Falconi.

Say What? Contemporary Jazz at its hippest! is a highly musical, highly energetic, and highly entertaining two-hour concert showcasing nostalgic jazz tunes from the 70's and 80's, and interpreting them in a modern style that fuses perfectly with the current smooth jazz favorites.

The selections in the show which are hand-picked by musical director, Mr. Katindig, himself, has a balance of retro jazz and new soulful and funky tunes. The show covers a variety of soul and jazz recording artists like Brian Culbertson, Earth Wind & Fire, Al Jarreau, George Benson, Lou Pardini, Bobby Caldwell, Seawind, Stevie Wonder, Jeff Lorber, The Rippingtons, Ramsey Lewis, Patti Austin, and Freddy Fox. Of course, the show will not be complete without the rendition of the very popular Boy Katindig originals like, “I'll Always Stay In Love This Way," “Capture the Changes," and, “Away From You."

“Say What?" Contemporary Jazz at its hippest! Boy Katindig with Maritoni Falconi feat. Mo- Teef will be held in Hard Rock Cafe Makati at the Glorietta 3 on October 29, Friday at 8PM. For inquiries and ticket purchasesplease call Koolkat Productions Manila at 542-6062. “Say What?" is presented by KoolKat Productions Manila and Hard Rock Cafe Makati, together with Yamaha Phils. and media partner, 105.1 Crossover.

A new international release, more shows in Malaysia and Singapore, a Philippine Yamaha clinic tour and another groovin' show in Manila before the year ends—Boy Katindig's Lifetime Achievement Award from the Awit Awards is only a testament that Boy K has already achieved more than enough for its standards, this early in his lifetime. —Ging Candelaria, October 2010
