Says Galper, “I warned John Bishop that my mother is 96 and still going strong, and I have her genes. That being the case, now being 70 years old, knock on wood, I could release another 25 albums. This agreement gives me the rare opportunity to plan my recordings as a series of continued explorations.“
Galper's latest recording Art-Work, follows in the footsteps of last years first critically acclaimed Origin release Furious Rubato. Recorded live at William Paterson University's Jazz Room Series, Art-Work features jazz icons Reggie Workman on bass and Rashied Ali on drums.
This February ‘09 release is already garnering rave reviews:
“Pianist Hal Galper’s trio concept is bold, deep, insightful and provocative.” --Bob Bernotas, “Just Jazz.”
“...the most complex, daring, exhilarating music of Galper's career. ” --JazzTimes.
“Clearly in the tradition, his keyboard attack is nevertheless somehow brazen, bold and certain..." --Cadence.
Recorded in concert, Hal Galper’s next trio release E Pluribus Unim featuring the stalwart rhythm section from his ’07 Fabola Records recording Agents Of Change, bassist Tony Marino and drummer Billy Mintz will be released later this year.
