United Nations Performance for Leni Stern Precedes July 25th European Release of Africa CD

Global Community Embraces Stern, From Salif Keita to Selva Ganesh Acclaimed singer/songwriter/guitarist Leni Stern has seen her recent CD Africa attract the attention of a growing international audience. Stern recently opened for the legendary Salif Keita in New York City, was invited to perform at the United Nations days later, and is now proud to announce the European release of her career-defining album, which was recorded over a two-year span at Keita's Bamako Studios in Mali.

Africa will be released in Germany on July 25th, with further European distribution to follow this Summer. Stern's collaboration with BSC Music will be celebrated with live performances at Unterfahrt in Munich on 7/25 and 7/26. Joining Stern for the CD release celebration will be Brahim Fribgane from Morocco on dumbek, cajon and oud, Mamadou Ba from Senegal on bass, Selva Ganesh from South India on gattam and kanjira, and Stern on vocals, electric guitar and n'goni. Selva Ganesh has gained acclaim as the successor of his legendary father Viku Vinayakram in John McLaughlin's group Shakti--one of the first-ever world music ensembles.

Stern's stature as a Global Music Artist has grown in the wake of Africa, and her live performances have reflected the dynamic shift, both in terms of instrumentation and personnel.

Since its U.S. release, critics have embraced Africa as “a significant new chapter in a career marked by bold changes." Stern received a double-review (for Africa and her Alu Maye EP) in the current issue of Dirty Linen Magazine, and will soon be featured in the Annual Women's Issue of Jazziz Magazine. 'Africa' has been praised as “one of the best CDs of the past year, in any genre." Africa continues to be warmly received in national and regional publications, from coast-to-coast.
