The NEA Jazz Masters Awards are the highest honors that our government bestows upon jazz musicians. These awards are given in recognition of this magnificent art form, so profoundly based in American culture and one of America's greatest gifts to the world.

“Jazz continues to inspire and influence artists and audiences in the United States and around the globe," said Mr. Lewis. “This special 2007 NEA Jazz Masters program, like the others in our LEGENDS OF JAZZ series, provides not only exciting performances, but showcases that unique energy sparked when great artists respond to each other in conversation and through music," Lewis added.
