Lee Morgan
Listen to “Sunday Night Jazz,” with host Larry Reni Thomas, on WCOM-FM (wcomfm.org), Chapel Hill-Carrboro, North Carolina, July 14, 2013, from 9pm-12midnight, for A LEE MORGAN BIRTHDAY SPECIAL. The program will feature three hours of Morgan’s music and the airing of a profile and interview of Helen Morgan, the lady who shot the trumpet legend. She was responsible for saving his career and ending it. Listen to her story, from her mouth, and no other, and hear her side of the bittersweet Frankie-and-Johnny tale. The profile is based on a 1996 interview that was conducted a month before her death of heart disease in her hometown of Wilmington, North Carolina. The interview is included in a critically-acclaimed article called “The Lady Who Shot Lee Morgan" by writer/radio announcer Larry Reni Thomas.
