Kuumbwa Jazz Celebrates International Jazz Day With Monterey Jazz Festival On Tour

Santa Cruz, CA: Kuumbwa Jazz will proudly join in the International Jazz Day celebrations taking place all over the world on April 30, 2013 by presenting an encore performance of Monterey Jazz Festival on Tour featuring Dee Dee Bridgewater, Christian McBride, Benny Green, Lewis Nash, Chris Potter & Ambrose Akinmusire.

“What better way to celebrate the history and impact of jazz, than spending International Jazz Day with the Monterey Jazz Festival on Tour band,” says Monterey Jazz Festival Board Member Clint Eastwood. “The band is made up of a super-group of jazz artists who all have deep relationships with the Monterey Jazz Festival. The tour is making its final stop at Kuumbwa Jazz, one of the most highly respected jazz-presenting institutions in the country, located right across the bay from the Monterey Jazz Festival.”

This encore performance of the Monterey Jazz Festival on Tour takes place Tuesday, April 30th at 7:00 and 9:00 pm at Kuumbwa Jazz Center in Santa Cruz. Tickets are available at kuumbwajazz.org.

The United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) officially designated each April 30 as International Jazz Day in order to highlight jazz and its diplomatic role of uniting people in all corners of the globe. The first annual International Jazz Day was celebrated around the clock and around the world on April 30, 2012, reaching more than one billion people through education programs, live performances and media coverage.

International Jazz Day brings together communities, schools, artists, historians, academics and jazz enthusiasts from UNESCO’s 195 member nations around the world to celebrate and learn about jazz and its impact, raise awareness of the need for intercultural dialogue and mutual understanding, and reinforce international cooperation and communication.

After opening their nation-wide tour with two sold-out performances at Kuumbwa Jazz, this super group of jazz musicians, return to close out their spectacular tour, complete with new material developed on the road.
