"KPLU School of Jazz - Volume 5" to be Released on May 19

Several of the finest Western Washington high school bands and jazz professionals are showcased on KPLU School of Jazz-Volume 5, the result of this years mentoring project.

The CD features some of the same high school jazz bands as the previous years projects, and includes a number of new guest artists. The complete list of 2009 participants: Stadium High School (Tacoma), North Thurston High School (Olympia), Inglemoor High School (Bothell), Roosevelt High School (Seattle), Squalicum High School (Bellingham), Mercer Island High School (Mercer Island), Newport High School (Bellevue), Shorewood High School (Shoreline), Mountlake Terrace High School (Mountlake Terrace), Edmonds Woodway High School (Edmonds), Garfield High School (Seattle), and South Whidbey High School.

Guests artists included on KPLU School of Jazz Volume 5: Lance Buller, Thomas Marriott, Jon Goforth, David Marriott, Steve Korn, Larry Holloway, Bruce Simpson, Cuong Vu, Neil Welch, Chris Stover, Michael Slivka, and Mark Taylor. All proceeds benefit Western Washington school music programs.

KPLU School of Jazz - Volume 5 includes songs by Sammy Nestico, Billy Strayhorn, Gordon Goodwin, and Chick Corea.

Beginning May 19, KPLU School of Jazz Volume 5 will be available for sale at Puget Sound area record stores and online at KPLU.

CD Release Concert on May 17
KPLU is celebrating the release of School of Jazz Volume 5 with a concert on Sunday, May 17, 3 p.m. at the Museum of History and Industry in Seattle. The concert will feature some of the participating high school bands in concert with their professional mentor, including Stadium High School (Michael Slivka), Mercer Island High School (Thomas Marriott), South Whidbey High School (Lance Buller), and Inglemoor High School (David Marriott).

Admission is $8.00. Advance tickets are available at KPLU and will also be available for purchase at the door prior to the event. Tickets are free for participating band members.
