SALT LAKE CITY— October 30, 2002— Former Four Freshmen trombonist Kevin Stout and Salt Lake City jazz saxophonist Brian Booth are in their finest hour on their new release, “Good Pals," recorded in 2002 with their band, “5.” The band “5" features Stout and Booth along with Las Vegas musicians Joey Singer on piano, Tom Warrington on bass, and John Abraham on drums.

Las Vegas Jazz Society reviewer Ken Hanlon writes, “The album's title, Good Pals, was inspired by the long friendship that Stout and Booth have enjoyed, dating back to their high school days in Salt Lake City. Whether due to that friendship or a natural affinity for similar tone qualities, Kevin and Brian produce a unison sound so focused and in tune that the resultant quality is neither trombone nor saxophone, but a timbre that sounds like another single instrument. Their timbral approach to unison playing is highly reminiscent of the old J.J. Johnson Quintet that featured Belgian tenor saxophonist Bobby Jaspar."

Mark Holston, contributor to JAZZIZ magazine reports,”This is jazz -- the real thing. GOOD PALS, in many ways, represents a joyous reunion of old friends who’ve become jazz artists of the first order, a winning formula for inspired performances if there ever was one.”

Don Gordon, Radio DJ for KIPO Hawaii public radio says, “Rest assured, this will be played… that is not a promise that will be hard to keep. Take it from me, GOOD PALS is first class."

Folks new to jazz, and established jazz gurus alike will love this refreshingly straight-ahead album. For more Information on the band, or to purchase the CD online, visit www.jazzed5.com
