Pianist Kevin Hays will be performing a solo piano concert at The Rubin Museum in NYC on Friday, June 26th, 2009 at 7:00PM as part of the 2009 Spring “Harlem in the Himalayas Series.”
Kevin Hays – piano
Jazz pianist and composer Kevin Hays has now recorded nearly a dozen CDs as a leader. His album Seventh Sense (Blue Note Records) was recognized as one of the Top 40 Jazz Releases of the Year" by Musician Magazine. The recording, which features Jazz legends Ron Carter and Jack DeJohnette, was awarded four stars in Downbeat Magazine.
2006 saw the release of a new trio CD (with his regular bassist Doug Weiss and drummer Bill Stewart), For Heaven's Sake, which received the prestigious Coups de Coeur Award in France, was chosen as The Best of 2006" by the New Yorker magazine, and was awarded four stars in Jazzman magazine. Another trio recording, What Survives, (for his own label, PinonDisk Records) features arrangements of classical works by Johannes Brahms,
Robert Schumann, and Anton Webern, along with Hays's own compositions. His 2007 release The Dreamer is his most adventurous recording to date, and features a new set of jazz compositions and songs, including vocal performances by the pianist; yet another facet of this ever-inventive and prolific musician.
