“Ladies Sing the Blues" 2006

Jazz and Generosity Make Beautiful Music Together
4th Annual Concert Focused on Raising Funds for Jazz Education

KANSAS CITY, Mo.--Three noteworthy Kansas City traditions-- legendary jazz vocals, a legacy of giving, and jazz education--come together for a hot jam session when the Kansas City Jazz Ambassadors stages its fourth annual Ladies Sing the Blues benefit. The cabaret dinner concert pays tribute to the legacy of Kansas City's female jazz vocalists beginning at 5:30 p.m., Thursday, May 11, 2006, at Johnny Cascone's, 6863 W. 91st Street, Overland Park, KS. (One block east of Metcalf on 91st street).

In the past, the event has raised nearly $10,000 for Jazz Ambassador programs that aid the Kansas City jazz community. This year's proceeds will go to support Kansas City Jazz Ambassadors' UMKC Conservatory of Music Jazz Studies Heritage Scholarship, because perpetuating Kansas City jazz by supporting the next generation of jazz heirs is one of the primary missions of Kansas City Jazz Ambassadors. KCJA members William Paprota and Sharon Valleau co-chair this year's event.

Our fabulous female vocalists include Kansas City jazz instructor and vocal pioneer Toni Oliver, the incomparable diva of Kansas City jazz Angela Hagenbach and returning to hometown KC, we are pleased to present jazz phenom Deborah Brown. (Jazz enthusiasts will remember Deborah's vocal stylings from the Signboard Bar at Crown Center.)

The concert also features the considerable talents of the Bram Wijnands Trio providing the rhythm section for the vocalists. Musical entertainment accompanying dinner will feature Rich Hill on piano and bassist Lucky Wesley.

Tickets to “Ladies Sing the Blues" are $100 ($75.00 is tax deductible), and may be purchased by calling Johnny Cascone's restaurant for reservations at (913) 381-6837. Johnny Cascone's will provide a very special dinner menu. There will be a cash bar. Ladies Sing the Blues is an event that can be enjoyed by the entire family. Just days before Mother's Day, this lovely dinner and jazz outing, featuring a vocal lineup of Kansas City ladies, is a great way for the entire family to remember and celebrate mom.

Kansas City Jazz Ambassadors is a nonprofit organization dedicated to the support and promotion of Kansas City jazz. Please consider making a contribution to this worthy cause if you cannot attend.
