“If you want to know what real jazz singing can be (but rarely is), listen to Judy NIEMACK ... She is a musician in the truest sense, having mastered her instrument (a beautiful one), and her chosen language and crafted her own style" DAN MORGENSTERN (DOWN BEAT)

Judy NIEMACK is a real jazz singer. Her delivery of lyrics is full of emotion and elegance, while in her scat singing she is a consummate musician, exploring the music like a virtuoso horn player. While she completed her Classical vocal studies as a coloratura soprano, she sang jazz from the time she was 17 years old, and comes out of the mainstream jazz tradition, breaking new ground with original lyrics, arrangements and a modern approach to standards. She has a dual career as performer and vocal jazz educator. In addition to having her eighth CD as a leader released on Sony Jazz in 2003, her book & CD “Hear It & Sing It! – Exploring Modal Jazz", was published by Second Floor Music (distributed by Hal Leonard) in July 2004.

Guitarist Jeanfrançois Prins' music is lyrical and passionate. While grounded in hard-swinging Jazz tradition, he enjoys risk-taking improvisation and organic interaction.

“A real voice on the guitar with a warmth that’s all his own" - Joe Lovano “...there can be no doubt that this truly creative and musical young man will continue to be heard from. But don’t wait for his next record - catch him live!" Dan Morgenstern

After touring this Summer in Spain, France, Italy, and the U.S., vocalist Judy Niemack (Sony Jazz) will join forces with Darmon Meader (Grammy Award winning “New York Voices" leader, arranger, and saxophonist) for an evening of improvised vocal jazz on September 13th at New York's Sweet Rhythm.

Come and hear this “conference of the scatting birds", a G2 summit of today's top vocal jazz improvisers. Judy and Darmon have worked together over the years, but this will be their first official “duo" gig in the Big Apple, a rare event, not to be missed!

Judy and Darmon have long admired each others work, and recently performed together in Germany, where reviewers said “the combination of the two singers' vocal timbres and musical sensibilites created a magical evening of varied repertoire and virtuoso vocal improvisation...they lit a fire in the audience, bringing the listeners to their feet..." Mindener Algemein

They will be accompanied by Jeanfrancois Prins (guitar), Bruno Castelucci (drums), bass and piano TBA.

A long time New Yorker, Judy NIEMACK now resides in Berlin, where since 1995 she has been Germany's first Professor of Vocal Jazz. She not only performs frequently in Europe and the USA (last December she opened the Allen Room at Jazz at the Lincoln Center, along with Wynton Marsalis), but also leads vocal jazz departments at the Jazz Institute Berlin, and at Musikene in San Sebastian, Spain. She has performed and taught vocal improvisation throughout the world for 30 years, and is one of the rare singers who improvises at the level of the best instrumentalists. Her recent projects include her eighth CD as a leader, “About Time" (Sony Jazz, 2003), and her book/CD , “Hear It & Sing It! – Exploring Modal Jazz”, ( Second Floor Music - Hal Leonard, 2004).
