JONATHAN BUTLER, SOUTH AFRICAN VOCALIST, GUITARIST,
DEBUTS ON BILLBOARD CONTEMPORARY JAZZ CHARTS AT #11
WITH FRESH NEW CD THE SOURCE

New York, NY - (October 23, 2000) - Jonathan Butler's latest CD THE SOURCE on N-Coded Music debuts at #11 on the Billboard Contemporary Jazz Charts. THE SOURCE is a soulful journey that embraces his R&B roots, as Jonathan acknowledges, “I've always felt that the CD title is of the utmost importance, because it should say something crucial to your audience about where you're coming from at that particular moment in time. 'The Source' also refers to my relationship with God - The Source of my being."

South African born Jonathan Butler's latest CD THE SOURCE brings us a young fresh approach into his spiritual environment and willingness to bear his innermost soul on love ballads like “I Believe," and “Love Doesn't Matter Now." Featured artists are, Rahsaan Patterson on “Shine A Light," Booker T, III did the mixing on “I Found Myself In You" on “Lake Vibes" with Waymon Tisdale on Bass, he clearly demonstrates why his guitar chops refuse to play second fiddle to anyone else out there. On “Anniversary" he showcases his inimitable touching vocal style, further enhancing his reputation as one of contemporary music's premiere balladeers, Radio is receiving him very well.

THE SOURCE is a unique blend of music from Jonathan that represents his emotional tradition and passionate delivery of soulful ballads. “Another Way" his debut single, is exemplary of his unique vocal talents and clearly showcases his move to a more R&B flava comparable to such artists as, Brian McKnight, Babyface, R. Kelly or Joe.

For those legions of international fans who have come to appreciate Jonathan Butler for his signature ballads ("Sarah, Sarah" and “Do You Love Me?" immediately come to mind), politically charged homages to his homeland ("Heal Our Land") and, of course, his smooth jazz guitar virtuosity ("Celebration," “Song For Elizabeth"), THE SOURCE represents an unexpected, but highly welcomed, growth in his music. “When you're blessed like I feel I've been," he reflects earnestly, “there are certain things you are called upon to communicate to people." THE SOURCE is Jonathan Butler's way of saying thanks.
