One of jazz's most visible bassists, John Patitucci got his professional start in the early 1980ss as a sideman with heavyweights such as Stan Getz and Freddie Hubbard. His first taste of international acclaim came with Chic Corea's Electric Band in 1985 and then, Corea's Akoustic Band. In playing in both an electric and acoustic band simultaneously with Corea, Patitucci demonstrated that he was as comfortable playing jazz-funk as he was playing acoustic jazz. Because the electric band was more visible, Patitucci was more known as an electric bassist, but in recent years, he has also been recognized as one of jazz's premiere acoustic bassists as well.
