On October 4, 2019, Latvia is presenting a jazz concert by the Jelgava Big Band at the Organization of American States on the on the Occasion of 130 years since the First International Conference of American States and in anticipation of the 25th anniversary in 2020 since Latvia is a Permanent Observer at the OAS.

Jelgava Big Band has toured Mexico, Peru and Brazil with jazz concerts, and are on their first tour in the USA. Jelgava Big Band musical repertoire in the USA includes a very special musical fusion between Latvian and American jazz musicians, as well as well-known melodies from the OAS countries in jazz rhythms that are unique to the band. The musical group will mark their 30th anniversary in 2020.
Tour supporters: Jelgava City (Latvia), American Latvian Association, Latvian Organizations in Washington, DC, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Latvia. The event will be overbooked to account for no-shows, and seats will be on the first come, first served basis. Please present ticket or a valid photo ID upon arrival.
Latvia celebrates its centennial in 2018 in the period of several years2017 to 2021. The main message of the celebration is “I am Latvia” emphasizing that the greatest asset of Latvia is its people who with their work are creating present day Latvia and together with the next generation are setting the foundation for the future. Jelgava Big Band concert in Washington DC is part of the Centennial of Latvia public diplomacy programme.
