Renowned writer Ishmael Reed, one of the most original and controversial African American literary figures and a group led by jazz violinist Billy Bang, will blend their talents in a collaboration of spoken word and jazz for peace.

Reed will read his own works and the peace poetry of Japanese Buddhist philosopher Daisaku Ikeda in what promises to be a powerful presentation. As Reed says, “When the politicians and the intellectual or academic leaders fail, then the poets have to step in."

Founded in 1964 by Jazz Legend, Billy Taylor, Jazzmobile's mission continues to be to present, promote, propagate and preserve Jazz, America's Classical Music, through quality performance and education programs. Jazzmobile is the premiere not-for-profit arts organization created solely for Jazz.

The Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture is a national research library devoted to collecting, preserving and providing access to resources documenting the history and experiences of peoples of African descent throughout the world.
